Something Smells Funny…

December Daily

December Daily | 2

TRADITIONS | The day after Thanksgiving is not for Black Friday madness in our house. No. The day after Thanksgiving we put up the Christmas tree. This year I assembled our pre-lit tree only to find that one section will not light up. I changed the fuses. No lights. I check about 10 bulbs. No lights. I changed the fuses again. No go.

I finally throw my hands up in frustration and let the girls decorate it anyway…with an unlit ring around the tree. A trip to Target for a 100 pack of multi-colored lights fixed my problem. I just strung the lights in the area with non-working lights. You don’t even notice.

We have another little tradition in our house. We stack our growing Christmas book library under the tree. We read the books throughout the month of December…and we always add a few new books each year.

See that dog at the top of the post? Cute, isn’t he?

Well, he PEED on our Christmas tradition! He peed all over our books and tree skirt!

He’s not so cute anymore is he?

Me…in this moment

big picture class

Mother, wife, graphic designer, friend, photographer, chef, nurse, travel coordinator, volunteer, blogger, daughter, stay-at-home mom, scrapbooker, maid, stain remover, Christian, therapist, font lover, ice skater, cookie baker, listener, book lover, explorer, creator, faithful, dog trainer, big sister, craft director, organizing specialist, dishwasher, taxi driver, ruler of the broom, house painter, observer…

Favorite part of the day…when the house is quiet and everyone is settled down for the night. It’s a time to unwind from the hectic day. The girls don’t have to be asleep; they can be in their room for “quiet time” or watching a movie together.

Loving…staying at home and not having to commute to work. This is much less stressful!

Longing for…more time with my husband.

Inspired by…photography, creative blogs and Pinterest. My blog is called: got2havefaith.wordpress.com

Dreaming of…vacation, mini-vacations and road trips…anywhere! I just want to explore.

Needing…time with my husband, support, nurturing and love.

When I was 16-years-old…I thought I was going to move to NYC and become a famous fashion designer.

Guilty pleasure… Real Housewives of Orange County reality show, and Project Runway fashion reality show (love Heidi, Michael and Nina).

The lessons I keep learning…let it go and just breathe.

You can never have too many…open-toed shoes, or colorful nail polish, or travel magazines.

December Daily | 3

It snowed, again, here in Denver on Thursday. It’s become our Thursday routine…snow Wednesday evening into Thursday! My neighbors had a doctor’s appointment in Aurora (near my office) that day. It took them 2 hours to get there because the roads were so bad. Thank goodness I don’t work that day.

Thor covered in snow

December Daily: Day 3. Then, it snowed again Friday night into Saturday morning. We still had to get up and get to the ice rink for practice, snow or shine! Thor is one of the dogs we inherited. He loves the snow. I mean, really loves it. He goes crazy playing in the snow. He will bark at the shovel when we are shoveling the snow. He loves you to throw snow in his face. He is a strange dog. The other dog (a poodle), Rocco, hates the snow. Total opposites in many ways.

December Daily is an album project that documents the 25 days leading up to Christmas.” You can get full details at Ali Edwards. I have never been very good at keeping a daily record during December, but I like to document this very special season for my children’s future.

We drove to Cherry Creek (about a 45 minute drive) to order a Christmas gift for hubby…they were closed because of the snow! That made me very upset! I mean, if I can drive 45 minutes to their shop*, they can get there to be open their doors during their posted regular hours. It’s not like it was a blizzard today!

So, Alex and I went to Pier 1 to check out their holiday goodies instead. Afterwards, about an hour later, I called that shop, hoping that maybe someone was just late getting to there. They weren’t, but their phones were forwarded to their other shop (another 30 minutes away) and they ordered the item for me without paying for it first. That made me very happy! (*I am being all secretive about the details of the “shop” because on the off-chance that hubby actually reads this post, I don’t want to spoil the surprise.)

These are the mugs/cups we bought at Pier 1

Cute right? My girls love hot chocolate in the winter, so they each got a special mug just for that sweet treat. The others are gifts. Pier 1 makes me happy too.
