Now this is what I call a snow storm!

Finally…a real snow storm. My unofficial snow measuring system of a rusty tape measure on the backyard patio table shows 13″. And, no school closures. What?

If you remember last week the schools closed before snow started to fly, we ended up with 6.5″…and school was closed. What gives JeffCo? I had 2 very disappointed kids (and mommy) this morning!

Robin in snow.

My neighbor has this flowering crabapple tree. The Robins were having so much fun all day picking up the crabapple buds. Hopefully the tree will still bloom this spring after the snow melts. Maybe they were playing in the snow a little too.

I had to grab my telephoto lens and umbrella to get a few shots. This Robin had no problem letting me get close to take these pictures.

Follow the leader.

I was simultaneously balancing a pink umbrella on my head so my camera didn’t get wet, kneeling with my knee in a snowy puddle, and trying to hold the camera steady, when I hear a “slosh-slosh-slosh” sound coming up behind me. It was my 6-year-old, Parker, sloshing through the snow…scaring away the Robins.

My grandpa passed away in Missouri on Saturday. Strangely, this reminds me of certain things in life I don’t pay attention too.

  1. How much gas cost in Colorado. I need gas, so it doesn’t matter to me how much it cost.
  2. How many miles to a gallon my car gets traveling from Colorado to Missouri. I got there in one piece, that is all that matters to me.

But, those are the two questions Grandpa always asked me when I was in Missouri for a visit. And, you know, I always made sure I had the answer for him, because I knew he would ask. Rest in peace, Grandpa.

Oh, yeah, unleaded gas is $3.47 a gallon and I get 23 mpg in my mini van…

Winter Storm Warning

Well, not exactly. The forecast was for 3-8 inches of snow. We ended up with 3 (maybe). Bummer.

Alex was wishing for a snow day because she had so much homework last night and didn’t finish her math. Actually, she finished it, but then realized it was the wrong assignment! Between all the running around back and forth to the hospital to see Daddy there just hasn’t been enough time this week. She was more concerned that turning in this math assignment late would bring her A-B average down. Silly girl.

My sister got the snow in Wichita! Seven beautiful inches. Although she doesn’t think so.

Lucky me, I got to shovel the snow.

One of my neighbors shoveled my sidewalk at 5 a.m. but it started snowing again.. What great neighbors I have.

Project Life | Week Four

Finally! It’s snowing. I have the flu but I couldn’t resist take a few quick shots of the snow on the way to drop the kids off at school this morning. Would you say that is dedication or an illness?

Parker got a tattoo this week. Yep! It’s a full tattoo on her back. Thankfully it washes off…

December Daily | Twenty-three, Snow and other things…

rocky mountains

We finally got snow last week! And, as luck would have it, I went to my old office to work for the day…in the snow storm. It felt like going home to visit your crazy family after being away for a while. Familiar but different; and always entertaining.

Why I live here: First snow of the season

Thursday | October 25  I woke up this morning with a sinus headache. A cold front moved into Colorado and the pressure is messing with my head. Oh, there is snow on the ground. Maybe three inches. I wasn’t in the mood to do anything–including the housework that I had planned.

As I took the girls to school, looking at the gorgeous snow covering the trees, I had a brilliant idea: head to the high country to shoot the snow!

The housework can wait. It will still be there tomorrow. And I can pop a few sinus pills and ignore the headache.

First stop: Red Rocks Park in Morrison, Colorado. It’s only about 25 minutes drive from my house. It was so quiet and hardly a soul in sight.

rocky mountains

On a whim I headed up Hwy. 285 through Turkey Creek Canyon to Conifer.

Then, I took a hard right and followed the signs towards Evergreen.

Rocky Mountains

Evergreen Lake: Here at the Lake it was so peaceful and serene. Only a few dog walkers were present. The silence was broken when a guy pulled up in his car and preceded to roll down the windows and blare “Sweet Caroline”. I still can’t get that song out of my head.

Don’t you love this red barn. I thought it would make a cute holiday card.

mountain wildlife

I came to a screeching halt when I saw these deer along the mountain road in Evergreen. They just stood there watching me watch them.

rocky mountains, golden, colorado

I kept meandering thorough the woods to get back to the city.  This was taken on Lookout Mountain above Golden, Colorado.

As I came down the mountain, back into the city, I lost my Rocky Mountain High.

This is why I live here.
